2012 GOLDEN GLOBES

The Golden Globes awards are the fashion precursor to the Oscars. See what your favorite celebrities wore at 2012 edition.

Director of  'In The Land of Blood or Honey', Angelina Jolie is never a miss and in an warm ivory Atelier Versace dress with a ruby red, one-shoulder cuff and a thigh-high slit, Globes was no exception. It’s simple, yet makes a stunning statement.

Sofia Vergara of 'Modern Family" did her best Jessica Rabbit impression once again on the red carpet. She looked stunning wearing a midnight-blue Vera Wang gown. Fitted up top, the strapless dress explodes with a swirl of pleats from the waist down, with a small train to add even more glamour.

Nicole Kidman went with a studded, V-strap Versace halter for her walk down the red carpet. Beautiful intricate design but overall color left much to be desired. The Aussie actress is able to pull off more colorful dramatic looks, hopefully Nicole comes back to that.

Winner of Best Actress in a Miniseries for 'Mildred Pierce', The British beauty keeps it elegant, as always, in this Jenny Packham gown. Complete with keyhole design, the satin and silk dress was cinched in at the waist, giving Winslet a stunning hour-glass silhouette.

The 'Good Wife's' best actress nominee, Julianna Marguilies sheathes her enviable figure in a backless iridescent plum gown by Naeem Khan. I'm were so bummed she chose this underwhelming and unflattering purple Naeem Khan.

The supermodel stunner arrived at the Golden Globe Awards showing off her enviable figure in a body-hugging Zac Posen gown. Piping and detailing at the bodice highlighted her form, while a fishtailed tulle train amped up the drama. Elle did overshadow many of the nominees.

The "E!" host's Kelly Osborne failed to live up to her reputation as a trendsetter in an over-the-top blue Zac Posen gown that swamped her now-petite frame. Add the grey hair and the total look is too severe.

'Young Adult' nominee Charlize Theron is stunning in this pale blush Dior Couture, the plunging gown's thigh-high split showing off her toned legs to perfection which was completed with a flowing train and an oversized bow detail on the waist.

Reese Witherspoon showed off her sexy side and  her petite curves in a crimson Zac Posen. This may be a very familiar silhouette for Reese, but the styling and her sassy attitude takes this up several notches.

This is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it look with no real grey in between for Tilda Swinton. I love it because – it was the most interesting dress of the evening. Only a handful of people could pull this off with that much fierceness.

'Homeland' star and nominee Claire Danes' in a wonderful J. Mendel gown. The black and ivory matte jersey column dress gets serious star power with beaded shoulders and belt and a sparkly cut-out back detail.

Diane Lane would be gorgeous in a burlap bag, but thankfully she can count on Reem Acra to dress her for this big deal event. The actress may be channeling old Hollywood, but she looks anything but old in a dazzling dress.

Helen Mirren never disappoints on the red carpet. The elegant Dame looked sensational in a navy Badgley Mischka gown. 'The Queen' star, continues to prove beyond a doubt that women can age gracefully, and stylishly.

A best actress nominee for 'The Help', Viola amps up the sex appeal in a high-slit, crimson one-shoulder Emilio Pucci gown. This simple grecian look was perfect for the red carpet.

Jessica Chastain in this white Givenchy gown is missing that "wow" factor. A pop of color against her red hair and pale skin would've dazzled. The gown’s beautiful artistry and intricate details are completely overshadowed by that horrible backcombed hair. An up-do would have been much better for the turtleneck.

To celebrate the nomination of her animated film 'Puss In Boots', Salma Hayek looked fierce in a shimmering black and gold pleated, patterned-bodice Gucci gown.

Nominated for her supporting role Octavia Spencer in 'The Help', the actress is a blushing beauty in a gathered, soft purple Tadashi Shoji gown.

Sarah Michelle Gellar the 'Ringer' star wore a show-stopping Monique Lhuillier Spring. Between the blue watercolour print and voluminous layers, this gown had everyone on the red carpet taking notice. Love the fact that she let her two-year-old daughter choose what she'd wear, the size of the gown and pattern overwhelms her petite frame.

Debra Messing vamped up the red carpet in a black one-shoulder gown by Monique Lhuillier. The simple but chic frock, complete with a full and draped skirt, showed off Debra's svelte figure. A classically beautiful look.

Nicole Richie mixed modern and retro in a Julien Macdonald beaded slinky silver halter column. The textured dress was a glamorous look for the usually boho-clad star.

'Bridesmaids' star Melissa McCarthy opted for a deep emerald gown by Badgley Mischka with a gold and jewel-embellished neckline.Thought the look was rather ho-hum for such an a-list event.

Dianna Agron, 'Glee' star donned a fiery red Giles Deacon gown. Between the elaborate swan cutouts, matching lipstick and upswept hair, this look's hitting all the right notes. Not on everyone's favorite list but points for the daring look.

Amanda Peet channeled bohemian vibe at the Golden Globes, opting for a white tiered gown by Marc Jacobs. But this dress is unflattering disappointing on her. This dress looks like something I could sew together with my grandmother’s old tablecloths.

Freida Pinto took a fashion risk in a teal Prada frock. The 'Slumdog Millionaire' star has a gorgeous figure and the dress is a beautiful color but wish the dress was a bit more fitting.

'Glee' star Lea Michele turned on the shine in a silver gown with a daring peek-a-boo bodice and a sequined skirt by Marchesa. Can give credit for a different daring look but might be too much for the star to pull off.

Rooney Mara looks like she's holding onto the darkness of her "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" role in a black Nina Ricci gown. The dress is fine, but if you're a nominee, we want more than just OK. And maybe even a smile.

Emma Stone kicked it up a notch for the Globes in this unique and sultry Lanvin look. Colorblocked with purple and fuchsia, the gown gets its edge from a few sheer panels and an eagle-emblazoned belt. She kept things interesting without going over the top.

The 'My Week with Marilyn' star Michelle Williams channels a '20s screen siren in navy beaded Jason Wu. Listed on many best dressed lists, rather on the fence with this look. Would have liked to have seen the actress bring out a little bit more of Marilyn to the carpet.

Best Supporting Actress in a Television Drama nominee Madeleine Stowe looks every bit the vixen she plays on 'Revenge' in a structured purple gown. Looking radiant as she strutted her stuff on the red carpet in a corseted Vera Wang.
